As a long time admirer or the darkly romantic, classic work of Chris Cleen, I had the pleasure of meeting, interviewing and getting work done by him on his most recent trip to San Francisco, for a guest spot at Idle Hand tattoo. As a New York based tattoo artist, Cleen spends his days at Saved tattoo in Brooklyn, and at his drawing table, creating his erotic themed Victorian imagery for enthusiasts of his craft, those looking to get tattooed and himself.

Despite dabbling in tattoo since his teenage years, tattooer Erik Jacobsen only picked up the trade professionally about five years ago. Since then, he has managed to create a stunning portfolio of modelled three-dimensional skulls, moths, and mammals and bold, graphic mandalas. We recently caught up with him for a chat about art vs. tattoo, his favorite types of images, and his first (regrettable?) ink - after the jump.

We would not be the first to note that Kelsey Brookes' artistic career did not follow the most traditional path. While attending university, he studied biology instead of painting and drawing, and not until practicing as a microbiologist for a few years and moving to San Diego did Brookes begin his career as a painter.

Twigs who is known for dropping top-notch pieces and has a serious handstyle, was recently interviewed by the website Getnloose. We have always enjoyed seeing new work from him and now we get some further insight into the man behind the letters.
