As Juxtapoz is preparing our special print edition feature with the Chicago-based artist Nick Cave, we were excited that we got a chance to meet up with him in Boston prior to opening. But that is for another day... we are here to tell you to go and see Cave's new exhibition at the Boston ICA. Cave is famous for his his “Soundsuits”: full-body outfits crafted from discarded objects found in antique shops and flea markets.

Artist Roxy Paine takes the concept of a diorama to a new level, creating life-size recreations of fast-food restaurants or a control room. Payne is inspired by environments that are meant to be activated by human interaction. This installation, titled Control Room, is hand-carved from birch wood, formed with steal, and finished with automotive paint.

Like some sort of three-dimensional neon and pastel Mandala, artist duo Nicole Andrijevic and Tanya Schultz use sugar, pigment, polystryene, wax, modeling clay, paper, plastic, found objects, wire, beads, glitter, and much more to fill floors and spaces with their Candyland colored worlds.

China-born, Kansas-based artist Hong Chun Zhang has a fascination with hair, whether large format charcoal drawings of hair that extend to the floors of a gallery, or her Hairy Object series that puts hair in absurd situations, the work is both well-rendered and fascinating. Some people feel repulsed by a clump of hair, and Zhang embraces it.

Taking Mexican serape blankets, Texas-based artist Adrian Esparza deconstructs and reweaves the threads into beautiful and colorful geometric patterns. Esparza sees the work as an evolving self-portrait. The serape blankets represent a tradition and cultural identity, displaced from its site of origin, and an object he encountered regularly as a Mexican-American raised on the border. The geometric patterns that he creates are also reminiscent of Macramé and other handcrafts from his childhood.

Using amorphous bubbles, Japanese artist Kohei Nawa constructed this giant cloud-like installation at the 2013 Aichi Triennale. Titled Foam, the installation makes perfect sense in relation to his other work exploring cellular forms.

A few more days and into the new year to go and see a great looking installation show from Urs Fischer up at Sadie Coles in London through January 6, 2014. Not only are there 3,000 pastel-coloured plaster raindrops throughout the show, you have an entire installation of clay sculptures taking in the drops.

In a surprise when we attended Ferris Plock's opening at White Walls in SF a few weeks back, we saw an amazing, immersive installation created by ROA in the backroom of the gallery. Just stepping into the space was an incredible experience, with so many details and pieces to take in from the constantly traveling Belgian artist. From the press release, its states that Paper Trails is based on "a new collection of animals encountered through the artists' profuse and worldwide travels."
