Well, we missed this last week, but Santa can be celebrated all year round. A sand sculpture artist, Sudarsan Pattnaik, took a long bit of time to create over 500 Santas from sand in Puri, India with 30 of his students from his Sudarsan Sand Art Institute. If you are this good, you have your own Sand Art Institute.

Gary Taxali was born in Chandigarh, India in 1968. A year later, he and his family immigrated to Toronto, Canada. The encouragement of his parents led Gary to take art classes as a child which eventually led him to pursue an art education.

Rithika Merchant is an artist from Mumbai, currently residing in Barcelona (after attending school in New York). Her drawings combine craft and concept pulling from mythological associations and detailed accumulation of line work.

Back in 2006, New Dehli-based artist, Subodh Gupta created the following piece titled “Very Hungry God.” Constructed of Stainless steel kitchen utensils in reaction to reports that French soup-kitchens were using pork as an ingredient to deter Muslims from partaking in the meals.

Tonight, July 15, in Chicago, Catherine Edelman Gallery will open the newest chapter of the Ctrl+P: Photography Taken Offline series, featuring photography from Dustin Aksland's Sounds of the Soil series. Ctrl+P is a project where Edeleman Gallery finds top talents on blogs and the web, and promotes a series of their work in the gallery.
