With Tim Biskup’s latest solo show coming up this Saturday, September 28th at Martha Otero Gallery in Los Angeles, we were invited to stop by the artist's studio for a sneak peek at what he has been working on for the past few months!  Watching an already talented and skilled artist like Tim grow and develop throughout the years he never seizes to amaze me, the same goes for this new body of work. This past weekend we stopped by Known Gallery for the opening reception of Thanks for Nothing, an exhibition featuring new works by Judith Supine and Alia Shawkat. You may know Mr. Supine from his incredible street works and dangling pieces off the Manhattan Bridge. In L.A.: Merry Karnowsky Gallery "SUMMER SESSIONS: LIVE PAINTING"

Merry Karnowsky Gallery, LAUNCH (producers of TARFEST), and District La Brea, closed out the District La Brea summer block party series with a live painting event Featuring some of LA's top artists : CRAOLA /  AXIS / devNgosha / Edward Walton Wilcox / Britt Ehringer + NAMAAK collective / KMNDZ  and special guest artist Nunca from Brazil. Each artist created hand painted murals on 10ft x 25ft - 300ft wide wooden barricades, which stretch out over 500  feet along the West side of La Brea Avenue between 1st and 2nd Street. 

In L.A.: Alessandro Moroder and Erin Garcia @ HVW8 Gallery

This past weekend we stopped by HVW8 Gallery for their latest exhibition “New Neons” by Alessandro Moroder and new outdoor murals by Erin Garcia. In New Neons, Moroder explores the idea of masculinity and memory through text, light and space.  The attraction of working with neon came from a custom sign his father built in the 80’s and was then hung and lit in their apartment. IN L.A.: Alvaro Ilizarbe @ Martha Otero Gallery

We recently stopped by Martha Otero Gallery for the opening reception of Alvaro Ilizarbe’s latest exhibition, “Surveying.” For this exhibition, Ilizarbe showcases new paintings and a site-specific installation. He depicts landscape imagery on topographical tectonic plate shaped panels. The amorphous sculptural wall structures lead through a passageway of patterned wallpapers portraying the elements in the earth’s stratum. Photos and more after the jump…

This past weekend we stopped by Known Gallery for the opening reception of “Adaptation” and installation by Push. As a part of the Game Changer series, SIMPLE Mobile told Push they wanted to give him a chance to do something he always wanted to do with his art without restriction. Push’s first choice was a to do a three-dimensional installation piece that stretched his skills and the ideas of what people thought of when it came to muralists that cut their teeth on the streets of Los Angeles. We stopped by the opening reception for Chris Johanson’s latest exhibition “Within The River of Time Is My Mind” currently on view at MOCA Pacific Design Center. Organized by guest curator Andrew Berardini, the exhibition features new paintings, sculpture, and found wood site-specific installation. Known for his figurative work that features text, the exhibition will highlight the kaleidoscopic color and angles that Johanson employs. Photos and more after the jump . . .

This past weekend we stopped by Mark Moore Gallery for the opening reception of “Empty Distances” a group show curated by Caryn Coleman. The group exhibition features works by James Aldridge, Darren Banks, Sean Higgins, Deborah Stratman, Alan Warburton, and a selection of episodes from "The Twilight Zone." Playing on Eugene Thacker's idea of horror as the "paradoxical thought of the unthinkable," Coleman has meticulously composed a show that illustrates the visualization and simultaneous abstraction of the unknown. Photos and more after the jump…
