Tom Greatorex

Illustration // Tuesday, February 21, 2012
We can't find much information about illustrator Tom Greatorex, but we do know that we like what we see. Silly, peculiar, and even kind of raunchy, Greatorex's admirably low-brow illustrations fly in the face of good taste, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

Based in Woodside, CA, artist Nolan Lee is passionate about creating art with a purpose, emphasizing ideals of justice and redemption to raise awareness of his subjects' personal histories. In this series of powerful images, each painting reflects the human faces of unsolved civil rights murder cases by representing the pain and suffering of the victims, haunting the viewer with the burden of their injustice.

Tasmanian Feral

Illustration // Tuesday, February 21, 2012
Tom O'Hern is artist and illustrator based in Hobart, Tasmania with a strong graphic sense of decrepit gore and decay. His high-contrast, sickly rendered portraits are disease ridden, wounded and bandaged with a healthy dose of gortesque humor thrown in for good measure. My new favorite Tasmanian. Thanks Tom for the submission!! x

Illustrations by Maira Kalman

Juxtapoz // Monday, February 20, 2012
When perusing our bookshelf the other evening, we revisited William Strunk Jr. and E.B. White's Elements of Style not so much for the writing advice, but more for Maira Kalman's illustrations. Her colors, stylistic renderings and fascinating quirkiness is always done just right.

End of the World by Escif

Juxtapoz // Monday, February 20, 2012
It’s obvious based on the amount of posts dedicated to Escif that we are partial to his work. Attached with this strong illustration titled End of the World, is the quote, ““He was waiting for the end of the world, waiting for the end of the world, waiting for the end of the world. Dear Lord I sincerely hope you’re coming ’cause you really started something,” by Elvis Costello.
