A great chance to see one of the best documentarian photographers we get to cover in this magazine: On the heels of Peter Beste’s second major book of photography (his debut, True Norwegian Black Metal was published by Vice Books in 2008) HVW8 Gallery, and Sinecure Books, are proud to present a rare gallery show of the photos that arose from Beste’s immersion into the everyday life of the Houston Hip Hop community, Houston Rap.

One of the standout galleries in Los Angeles, HVW8, just opened a new exhibition by creative director, designer, and fine artist Kevin Lyons titled Shits & Giggles. Wait, its more of a "collection of Art Stuff Loosely formulated to Make A Show." That is a good description, or better yet, "works on paper, cloth, and glass exploring the far reaching positive influences of St. Ides Premium Malt Liquor on Hip-Hop culture." There we go.

This past weekend we stopped by HVW8 Gallery for their latest exhibition “New Neons” by Alessandro Moroder and new outdoor murals by Erin Garcia. In New Neons, Moroder explores the idea of masculinity and memory through text, light and space.  The attraction of working with neon came from a custom sign his father built in the 80’s and was then hung and lit in their apartment. This past weekend we stopped by HVW8 Art for the private reception for “15 Years Of Gonz and Adidas,” a photo exhibition celebrating Mark Gonzales’ 15 years with the adidas Skateboarding family. As you may know, the man they lovingly call the "Gonz" has been a good friend of the Juxtapoz, Thrasher, and High Speed family for years, and we are so happy to see this show come to fruition. Parra "Kind Regrets" @ HVW8, Los Angeles

We have had a chance to see a bunch of Dutch artist Parra in California this year. First, it was his massive mural and first US museum showing at the SFMOMA that was outstanding, and now, he is back on the West Coast. He will open a new series of works, Kind Regrets, at HVW8 Gallery, featuring acrylic on canvas works and pen on paper.

Marc McKee opens Seen/Unknown, an art show and book release, at HVW8 Gallery in Los Angeles this Saturday, March 19. In 1989, McKee started creating skateboard graphics for World Industries and many of its subsidiaries, like Blind, 101, Menace, A-Team and Almost, as well as being the editor of Big Brother Magazine during its first four years.
