VHILS IN RIO DE JANEIRO PART 2

Street Art // Friday, October 26, 2012
Creating stunning imagery from old, dusted, and dilapidated walls by chipping away at the surface, Alexandre Farto, aka Vhils, continues to carve out his own medium in the streets. Rio De Janeiro, Brazil has been the artist’s recent canvas where he created two new pieces from the local weathered buildings exterior.

Sylvia Ji "La Catrina" @ CHG Circa, Culver City

On Saturday, November 3, 2012, CHG Circa will feature La Catrina, Sylvia Ji’s new paintings of sublime Catrina beauty and her fifth solo exhibition with the gallery. Central to the paintings of La Catrina is the specter of La Calavera Catrina, an iconic deity of Mexico’s Day of the Dead celebrations, invoked by Sylvia Ji as a chromatic presence enciphered with allegory.

Amazing Pencil Works by Adonna Khare

Juxtapoz // Thursday, October 25, 2012
Wow. Working with pencil is one thing, but to create large-scale, massive pencil on paper works as Adonna Khare creates is just stunning. Winner of the Art Prize 2012, Khare lives and works in Southern California, and is a member of the Drawing Center in New York. If you draw like this, it makes sense.

Beer Cans to Sculpture Art by Macaon

Juxtapoz // Thursday, October 25, 2012
Normally we like to leave our beer drinking to after-hours away from the office, but we ran into this article this morning about Japanese artist Macaon transforming everyday beer and soda cans into sculpture art, and we couldn't resist. These are actually quite good, so good in fact, we want to know how much beer was consumed in the making of Darth Vadar?

The Horse Head Pillow Case

Juxtapoz // Thursday, October 25, 2012
Somewhere, Mario Puzo is very proud of the Horse Head Pillow Case. For those of you that love the Godfather, you know that this is a fun revenge-light gag gift. But for those of you who may be dealing with someone who doesn't know the Godfather, this may ruin a first date and, um, trip to the bedroom.

Dale Grimshaw is a dynamic artist calling on powerful emotions and strongly held belief to fuel his creative output. This tumultuous energy has produced a marvelous series of paintings over the past five years - works that have often been highly personal, but because of their directness and honesty, have succeeded in resonating with very many people.

Gargoyle Projections by Clément Briend

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, October 24, 2012
We got gargoyles in the trees! Artist Clément Briend takes the textures of trees and light projects images of gargoyles to give the effect that the trees are indeed alive. The result is some of the most beautiful, and fun, imagery we have been able to post on this site in the past few months.

The Illustrative Works of Goni Montes

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, October 24, 2012
From the site of Goni Montes, an illustrator we really admire, "I was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, got a BA from the UPR at Mayagüez, and an MFA from SCAD Atlanta. I began working as a scientific illustrator for the Puerto Rico Sea Grant. Now I mostly do editorial illustrations with some fantasy here and there."

A nice little surprise in the mail yesterday: Brendan Monroe's new release, the Islands n.2 comic. Says Monroe, "This is the second visual story of my wandering dream based comics. The couple explores the deep sea floor and the gravitational relationship of moon and tide."
