This photo is way better than a hologram, don't you think? One of the premier hip-hop photographers on the West Coast during the boom of the early 1990s was Michael Miller, who captured iconic shots of the likes of Tupac, Eazy-E, and Ice Cube, and after a strong showing at LA's Known Gallery, Miller is bringing his legendary works to San Francisco's FIFTY24SF Gallery on April 27—28, 2012.

One of the most fascinating artists to come out of the hip-hop and graffiti movements in the 1980s, as well as the highlight of MOCA's 2011 Art In the Streets and our issue done in conjunction was the late Rammellzee, a true visual and musical pioneer. Starting March 9, the artist's The Letter Racers sculptures will be on view in NYC for the first time.

Our contributing photo editor, Estevan Oriol, gave us the head's up on this new photography show opening at Known Gallery tonight, Feburary 4. Michael Miller's West Coast Hip-Hop: A History In Pictures will feature 43 photos, majority of which have never been shown to the public.

Friday morning means we are keeping things light, and what better than having you play a little guessing game. London-based freelance designer and illustrator Dale Edwin Murray has created this great series of 14 different hip hop artist heads, 13 of which we knew immediately. Can you guess all 14 in one sweep?

We go back to 1983, an era of hip-hop, graffiti, and street culture that our April 2011 Art In the Streets Issue covers, and give you the masterpiece work of graffiti artist, musician and futurist, Rammellzee, and hip-hop artist K-Rob, "Beat Bop." As our April 2011 Art In the Streets issue is getting ready to hit newsstands, we look back at one of the great convergences of scenes when hip-hop, punk, and graffiti fused into this music video. Jamel Shabazz' seminal Back In the Days, a chronicling of hip-hop culture in NYC from 1980-89, is getting a 10th anniversary remix courtesy of powerHouse Books. The new edition will feature additional images, text by Fab 5 Freddy and Jeff Chang. This is the book that started the trend, so we say go with the source. Full cover image after the jump . . .
