The Bechers

Since the 1950’s, German photography duo Bernd and Hilla Becher have set the precedent for photographic surveys. Their compositional style first formed when the pair set out to document the architectural similarities among industrial buildings in the Ruhr Valley of Germany. Over the years, they began photographing all over the world and all different types of structures including water towers, gas tanks, and mine heads.
