In 1970, a young Steve Frykholm arrived at the legendary Herman Miller Furniture Company, where Charles and Ray Eames, Alexander Girard and George Nelson built their reputations and created the canon of modern furniture design. It wasn’t long before Steve began making waves of his own with a series of screen printed posters for the annual company picnic.

Recently, Herman Miller hosted a design competition focused on the idea of a modern, mobile worker. The proposition challenged designers to create a concept that would facilitate individual work in a shared work environment. It questioned designers to think about all of the “stuff” that mobile workers need to access throughout their day and what type of product could be created to aid in their plight.

'I had the pleasure to design a poster for the legendary furniture manufacturer Herman Miller. In its assortment there are many style icons such as chairs by Charles and Ray Eames and George Nelson. My task was to choose one of their products, to interpret it. The poster was later exhibited in Melbourne, Australia. The exhibition showed the impressive poster history of Herman Miller, with posters from designers such as Armin Hofmann and Steve Frykholm....'
