An interview with Este

If you've driven around LA and pay attention to graffiti then you've probably seen something from Este. He killed Los Angeles for years and last summer decided to leave his hometown and spray his name all around the country. We recently caught up with him and talked about what he's been up to since leaving LA.

With the competition over and all large murals completed, a group of artists headed on a day field trip to Moorea Island to eat, swim with sharks and stingrays, and soak in the tropical luxuries. As most worked on their murals for just about a week, the rest and relaxation was essential. Reflecting on our week spent in Tahiti we can genuinely say that the group of artists chosen to participate were some of the most humble, egoless and talented individuals we've had the pleasure to watch work.

Wall Therapy in Rochester, NY has begun a number of smaller curated events through the painting season starting a few weeks ago and going through as long as the Rochester weather allows this Fall. WRITES OF SPRING is the first installment focusing on typography and New York graffiti writer, Faust, contributed the following large script piece that reads “All That Matters.”

Last night the Sixty Soho hotel in New York got bombed! Obviously not by terrorists, but by hoards of writers and attendees. SMART CREW members DCEVE, SNOEMAN, ELMO and others transformed the SIXTY SoHo lobby over several days prior to the hotel's renovation; creating an interactive graffiti landscape and the beginning of SIXTY SoHo's reimagining. On the second day of the competition for the Ono’u Tahiti Graffiti Festival, the ten final round competitors were each given a word in the Tahitian language to paint and interpret. For five hours the varied styled artists painted it out, each bringing exceptionally strong work to the table. After a lengthy and trying deliberation between the judges the winners were announced.

Horfe and Russell Maurice's "Pathetic Bubble" @ Doomsday Store

Pathetic Bubble is Horfee and Russel Maurice’s newest collabortive exhibition of illustrated styles at Doomsday Store opening tomorrow in Melbourne. Using cels (transparent sheets) originally employed to split up the production process of hand-drawn animation, Maurice and Horfée revive a historical technique of cartoon creation to seamlessly layer up their compositions.
