As we showed you earlier on the site today, Los Angeles-based Gary Baseman will be opening his first solo musuem survey this week at Skirball Cultural Center. In conjunction with the opening and our 10+ years  of covering Gary's work in the magazine, we look back on a classic article we had in the Jan/Feb 2001issue, #30, where Cleatus Broadus (yep, things were silly in 2001) catches up the "Dumb Luck" of Baseman. Congrats Gary on the museum show.... 

Our friend Gary Baseman has a very special week ahead as he prepares to open The Door Is Always Open at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles on April 25. This will be the former Juxtapoz featured artist, illustrator, animator, and toy designer's first ever museum survey, long overdue in our book. The survey will also feature paintings, photographs, toys, sketchbooks, and videos, presented in a "novel gallery setting that evokes Baseman’s childhood home, replete with family snapshots and furnishings." Be there.

We recently attended the opening of Gary Baseman’s latest exhibition “Nightmares of Halloween's Past” at the newly opened KK Gallery in Los Angeles' historic Chinatown. We interviewed Gary last week about the opening, and we may have had a drink with him in LA this past Thursday. But we think you should just check the photos and more after the jump.

We recently stopped by LeBasse Projects for their newest exhibition, LA Mixtape. LA MiXTAPE documents the effect of music on the process of creation, asking each participating artist to create a piece titled after a song, artist, or band that has inspired or influenced his/her creative process.

This past weekend we stopped by the 6th annual Sea No Evil benefit art exhibition. The Sea No Evil art benefit show at the Riverside Municipal Auditorium featuring artwork donated by over 100 artists from around the world including Gary Baseman, Tara McPherson, Tim Biskup, Shepard Fairey, Lola, Travis Louie, Hydro74, Amy Sol and many, many more. Los Angeles-based fine artist, Gary Baseman, just sent us a few preview images of his newest exhibition, Vicious, set to open this Thursday, April 5, at Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea in Milan, Italy. The exhibition will feature over 30 new works based on the concept of "hunger."

Sea No Evil 2011 opened in Riverside, California at the Riverside Municipal Auditorium last night showcasing work from more than one hundred artists. Mainstays like Shepard Fairey, Gary Baseman, Lola, Travis Louie, Clayton Brothers, Jeff Soto and many more donated pieces specially produced for the show.

From the publisher who publishes the Juxtapoz Book Series, Gingko Press, and the author who is one of Jux' longest running contributors, Caleb Neelon, comes the new book, Delusional: The Story of the Jonathan LeVine Gallery. Obviously, the book is about the story of NYC's Jonathan Levine Gallery and not costume design. That cover is so damn good. More after the jump . . .
