Another great part of the Art In the Streets exhibition is LEE Q's wall when you walk in, representing, or at least it seemed apparent to us, the NYC contingent at the show. And next to LEE's two pieces was a recreation of Patti Astor's seminal FUN Gallery that used to be the downtown spot in NYC for graffiti artists to exhibit in the 1980s. More after the jump . . .

Everything is getting tightened up at MOCA's Art In the Streets at the moment, and just one walk around the building this morning we found pieces by Os Gemeos, AMAZE, and BLADE, and LEE and FUTURA were putting touhces on the massive mural on the side of the Geffen. Inside is amazing, but more on that later. Pictures after the jump . . .

We have been following the progress of LEE's mural at MOCA's Art In the Streets all weekend, and yesterday evening finally took a few shots of the beautiful progress that he has been in making. LEE, our April 2011 subscriber cover artist and featured in the magazine, has been painting the large facade outside of the Geffen with PUSH and RISK, at least when we took these pictures. The other day, watching an installation come to life at MOCA's Art In the Streets, I was struggling to get my indoor photo settings right. And you know what? Martha Cooper stopped and taught me how to shoot proper indoor art conditions. That has to be a highlight. Right now at Carmichael Gallery in LA, Martha Cooper: Remix just opened, featuring Cooper's classic photos with over 50 artists creating their own unique interpretations of her iconic, historically significant imagery. As our April 2011 Art In the Streets issue is getting ready to hit newsstands, we look back at one of the great convergences of scenes when hip-hop, punk, and graffiti fused into this music video. Here you have The Clash, Fab 5 Freddy, and Futura 2000 all together on one track, with graffiti images being flashed and artists being name-dropped by both Fred and Futura. Video after the jump . .

April 2011 marks a special issue for Juxtapoz Magazine, as we were asked by the MOCA to create a companion issue to the first major instituitional retrospective of street art, Art In the Streets. As we documented street art to a wider-audience of fine art, tattoo, pop-surreal, and illustrative art enthusiasts over our 17 years, we wanted to create an extended dialog and history with graffiti and street art pioneers. One of our all-time great covers is the Futura image from July/August 2005. To this day, people cite this one as a game-changer. The great website, 12ozProphet, has just released a collaborative t-shirt collection with the legendary Futura, and along with Also Known As, produced a video interview with the NYC-based artist to coincide with the release.
