Andy Ralph is a San Diego-based artist that also sings in the band Writer. We first encountered his lawn chair sculptures in the Musuem of Contemporary Art, San Diego at their La Jolla location. In the gallery space that overlooks the surrounding reefs, coves, and beaches, these lawn chairs seemed perfectly placed in the grotesquely affluent and perfectly scenic coast side of La Jolla.

Allen Jones' table (made in 1969) from the late-playboy Gunter Sach's collection sold for $1.6 million at Sotheby's. Furniture from Jones' soft porn line, which depicts furniture-sculptures, made with female mannequins in full bondage attire and the table which sold for such a high price was part of a series of erotic furniture pieces he was making around this same time.

As we continue our series of featuring the Friends Of Brazilian great, Vik Muniz, today we look at the award-winning design team of brothers Fernando and Humberto Campana. Campana Designs have long been known for their unique combination of craft-meets-contemporary, recycled-meets-high design furniture. The Campanas have garnered massive critical attention for their innovative furniture made from everyday materials and waste products like cardboard, fabric scraps, rope, aluminum wire, and plastic tubes.

These are really cool public "furniture" pieces (they seem more like really great installation pieces you can sit on) made from polyethylene plastic (plastic bottle waste). The designer, Sebastien Wierinck, is currently working on "new structures for experiments in contemporary design."

The mega Eames Furniture revival is a good thing for the art of lifestyle. If you want to appreciate good home or office furniture design, Eames is sort of A1 in where to start. Their classic Lounge Chair and Ottoman is the subject of this video, "The Making of the Eames Lounge Chair."
