In our May 2013 issue,  Juxtapoz was honored to have the chance to speak with enigmatic Norwegian artist, Odd Nerdrum. Writer David Molesky finished the piece and headed to France for a special exhibition and open house that the Nerdrum Museum held at the artist's home in Maisons-Laffitte. The event also served as a release for a new book from the Nerdrum Museum called, "Crime and Refuge."

We are really enjoying Bordeaux, France-based illustrator Jonathan Burton's latest project: a pack of cards with a playful, amusing, yet classic twist. The Folio Society commissioned the cards and we want a pack.

This morning we take a look the work of French, LA-based artist Mark Maggiori. Mark is an analog photographer, a painter, musician and music video director. 

French graphic artist Romain Jacquet-Lagreze's series, Vertical Horizon, was taken between the vuildings of Hong-Kong. In the series he dives into the cramped, diverse, think environment.

This morning we take a look at the work of Lyon, France-based artist Emile Morel. His surreal, imaginary worlds linger halfway between hell and "wonderful medieval Dante, depicting primitive impulses, bestial and intimate and idyllic mythology."

French artist Bernard Pras's latest installation is a portrait of Malian actor Sotigui Kouyate. It is anamorphic, meaning it is an illusion that can only be viewed from a specific vantage point. Pras used clothes, paint, wood, rubber, and other objects to fill the entire room and the portrait is only clearly visible through the lens of his camera.

This morning we take a look at the paintings of French artist Françoise Nielly. Nielly's colorful portraits, created using thick strokes of oil on canvas, are based off simple black and white photographs. According to her bio, Nielly 'takes a risk: her painting is sexual, her colors free, exuberant, surprising, even explosive, the cut of her knife incisive, her color pallete dazzling.'   

Félix Labisse was a French Surrealist painter, illustrator, and designer who died in 1982. His paintings depict fantastical scenes featuring hyprid and often creatures. We are really enjoying his series of blue women...

A brilliant collection of pharmaceutical ads from France, circa the 1930s. There are a few in here that channel a pre "Mother's Little Helper" vibe, with a tad-too-happy individual with their over the counter drugs, but we just love the classic graphic design and poster art style. 

The paintings of Valencian artist Tania Blanco examine the relationship between humanity and science. His round acrylic paintings are done on canvas or wood panels and have a strange, surreal clinical, doctors office feel to them.
