The Art of NC Winters

Juxtapoz // Tuesday, September 11, 2012
Too often in our genre an artist is sprung into the spotlight too early, before they've been able to properly grow, develop their technique and actually experience being a gallery artist as a real job. We've been showing N.C. Winters at Gallery1988 for almost 7 years now, and there is no one we've shown who's been able to improve and benefit from that process more than him.

The Work of China's Liu Baomin

Juxtapoz // Monday, September 10, 2012
The series Extreme Illusion by Liu Baomin cast doubts itself. This series is a visual account which opposes the sense of reality, and therefore the paintings of Liu Baomin portray everything that happened and his happening in the world as nothing but a sense of void...

The Work of Stuart Pearson Wright

Juxtapoz // Monday, September 10, 2012
English painter, Stuart Pearson Wright, is a talented figurative painter. His style is highly meticulous and built around a strange visual imagination. There are obvious antecedents to his work which hark to Flemish artists in the British romantic tradition.

The Works of Henrik Uldalen

Juxtapoz // Friday, September 07, 2012
Oslo, Norway-based Henrick Uldalen is a young up-and-coming self-taught painter. His atmosphere and subject matter is often depicted as being in a limbo or dream-like state. Despite his realistic approach, photographic accuracy is not what he seeks to achieve.

The Works of Drew Young

Juxtapoz // Friday, September 07, 2012
Drew Young's work currently focuses on lost and found adolescence. He believes we live in a world that is self-indulgent in primal behavior and lost in a wilderness of forgotten morality and values. The Vancouver, BC-based Young's images strongly reflect our own life experiences of these dark and visceral moments and places. If anything, he's giving us an external view of our own slef-gratifying exploits.

The Work of Jaime Brett Treadwell

Juxtapoz // Friday, August 31, 2012
I am intrigued by my social surroundings ranging from small neighborhood cultural identities to grander differences among rural, urban, and suburban life. I find pleasure merging conflicting imagery, design, and color. I often use vivid cheerful colors to masquerade or obscure the realities within my paintings.

The Works of Charlie Isoe

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, August 29, 2012
It has been awhile since we check in with Perth, Australia-based, and former April 2010 cover artist, Charlie Isoe, but we were looking at his old cover image in our office yesterday and thought... damn, Charlie is a talented painter. The works always felt full of energy, ideas, command, but also loose and exploratory. Although he hasn't shown in a few years, we expect something interesting whenever Isoe has a new body of work.
