"The Creation of Nirak´tuh" is the most recent exhibit of artist Favio Martínez "Curiot" (Michoacan, México), presenting a series inspired in the element of fire as a component of the duality of Creation - Destruction. In this new series, Curiot creates a collection of characters lead by Nirak'tuh, the sun god, who announces a new cycle in the history of the planet.

Rene Almanza has really interested us for years. We were lucky to spend extensive time with the Monterrey, Mexico based painter in San Francisco a few years back, and watched him build a series of portraits were both done in a classical stlye as well as contain hidden narratives of futuristic post-humanism. The artist just opened a new body of work, "Landscape," at FIFTY24MX Gallery.

Of the many standout booths and showcases at this year's Scope Art Fair in Miami Beach (with a very smart move of taking the fair literallly to the beach), FIFTY24MX Gallery and our friends at Juxtapoz Latin America had a fantastic booth featuring works from Jux staples Saner, Miss Van, Ericailcane, Meredith Dittmar, and Paul Insect. 

Saner “El Cenit Del Venado" @ Fifty24MX Gallery, Mexico City

Over the weekend, Saner opened his newest exhibition “El Cenit Del Venado" at Fifty24MX Gallery in Mexico City. This new body of work consisted of acrylic paintings, ink drawings and sculptures, all presented in a dim lit setting. Saner wrote about the exhibition saying, “The zenith refers to the time when the sun and the moon aligns in the sky above us, and it´s used as a metaphor of those instants where the human being is able to get out of the daily routine and be present, being able to connect with the Great Spirit.”

Our friends and colleagues in Mexico City @ FIFTY24MX Gallery are set to open a great new exhibition, Afrodea, featuring a new set of erotic-themed paintings and illustrations by Violeta Hernandez. Based in what is becoming a creative hotspot in Monterrey, Mexico, Hernandez sites the likes of Mark Ryden, James Jean, and Leonora Carrington amongst her influences.

Mexico City-based artist, Minoz, who we documented last year as he was preparing a mural (with Meiz) has a new body of work about to open at FIFTY24MX in Mexico City, Espiralismo. Known mostly for street works, this is the first time that Minoz has shown in a gallery. The show opens on September 8, 2012.

A few months ago, Italian muralist, Ericailcane, was in Mexico City for his exhibition at FIFTY24MX Gallery, and was able to find time to paint this wall with fellow artist, Hitnes, in Tepito. A nice video was made documenting the mural, and our colleagues at Juxtapoz Latin America just passed it along to us. The wall was part of COMEX Series.

All City Canvas' "PIEZAS" @ FIFTY24MX Gallery, Mexico City

Last Thursday the exhibition PIEZAS opened as part of the Festival All City Canvas at Fifty24MX in Mexico City. Several pieces were on view by many of the artists participating in the festival such as Saner, Roa, Interesni Kazki, Aryz, Sego and El Mac.

Maybe you know Pedro Friedeberg as the man behind the now infamous Hand Chair. But did you know the Mexico City-based Friedeberg, along with Frida Kahlo, were the only two Mexican artists recognized by Andre Breton as part of the Surrealist movement? That makes Friedeberg the last of the Mexican Surrealists, and he opens a new exhibition in Mexico City this week.

Saner in New Documentary in Mexico
