As we prepare for our trip to Fame Festival at the end of September, we have been doing our research, and one artist we are learning about is Polish artist, Nespoon. She works in ceramics, and creates handmade public works. When at Fame in Italy this summer, she spent a month with local artisans creating a body of work to place around Grottaglie.

It is becoming that time of year again, where artists from around the world descend on the small Italian town of Grottaglie to create some of the best public art of the year for Fame Festival. Germany's Boris Hoppek, a personal favorite of this site, has spent some time already making a body of work around Grottaglie.

On the opening night of MOCA's "Art In the Streets," we got a chance to meet UK-artist Word To Mother, and even sat next to him at a Japanese restaurant late in the evening after the festivities died down. So we were happy to see "Madre," a nice short film made about Word's experience at the Italian Fame Festival in 2010.

*Every Sunday, Juxtapoz.com will highlight an artist that we feel is currently on the cusp of a new level of critical and technical success. The artist we feature will not necessarily be unknown, nor will they be of a pre-established museum career. But they will be artists who have showcased progress in a new body of work that deserves continual examination. We will mostly look at the work itself and let the art speak. Today, we feature Spanish street and fine artist, Escif.

“With some artists, you get worried that time won’t be enough to do all they want to do while they’re here,” writes Fame Fest organizer Angelo Milano, “while with some others you realize how wall painting-addicted they are and you think that the town does not have enough walls to make em happy.”
