Fabian Oefner's "Disintegrating" and "Hatch"

Swiss photographer Fabian Oefner has previously appeared on the site for his beautiful high-speed photographs of spinning paint as well as his magnetic watercolor photos. Today we take a look at a series of six photographs that, like before combine art and science. His Disintegrating series dismantles and "explodes" classic sports cars, freezing their parts in space. The Hatch series sees the cars "breaking" from inside a shell.

Swiss photographer Fabian Oefner has created some truly awesome high-speed shots of paint being spun by centripetal force. Placing the paint on a rod attached to a drill, the artist used a sensor to trigger flashes as short as 1/40000 of a second and snap a picture only a millisecond later after it was turned on.
