That portrait! We knew in late 2006 when we were organizing an interview with legendary artist, filmmaker, and actor Dennis Hopper that the portrait had to be perfect, a statement if you will, as this was the first issue that Juxtapoz was going to explore the spread photograph portrait series. Estevan Oriol, who has been an integral part of the Juxtapoz team for nearly 7 years, captured so much emotion and iconic power in Hopper in this shot, something that we could never expect we would capture with such a pivotal member of the art community...

On newsstands now, David Choe's Afghanistan Tour Diary graces our August 2013 issue, with photography by Estevan Oriol. To call these "outtakes" is a little misleading; these are all intriguing and fantastic photos from one of the leading photographers in the world. But we couldn't fit everything into the print edition and now have a look at some of the extras that missed print. If you haven't read the Choe feature, we suggest going and getting the issue right now. If you are interested in Afghanistan and all it has to offer, well, try and go there, or at least look at the Choe travel guide.

Nothing says summer vacation like the French Riviera. But in the case of David Choe and Estevan Oriol, they much prefer to spend the summer in one of the hardest places in the world to get into: Afghanistan. For the August 2013 issue, we get an exclusive, Anderson Cooper 360 style report from Afghanistan from the journals of David Choe and photos of Estevan Oriol. We follow their trek through the mountains, palaces, jails, and neighborhoods that most of the world has yet to see in over a decade. And they brought paint.
