These illustrations for a 1934 print of the classic and salacious French novel "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" ("Dangerous Liaisons") come from George Barbier, one the great French illustrators of the early 20th century. Although tame by today's standards, Barbier's work is lush and decadent, perfectly evoking the sexual and monetary excess of 18th century France.
