Lucio Bubacco's Erotic Glassworks

Erotica // Thursday, March 14, 2013
Murano-based glassblower Lucio Bubacco creates delicate glass sculptures that turn the great Venetian tradition on its head, favoring orgiastic bacchanals and S&M scenarios as his not-so-dainty subject matter. Let's just say that having one of these bad boys as a centerpiece on your dining room table would be a conversation starter, to say the least. "Bubacco's fascination with anatomy, equine and human, lured him to push bit by bit beyond the perceived technical limits of his craft..."

Vivian Loh: Beauty and Shame

Erotica // Wednesday, March 13, 2013
Vivian Loh describes her photos as "a reflection on the human's naked form being a source of beauty and shame." These photos are intensely honest, presenting the body as the ultimate and undeniable human expressor. Loh's deft handling of light and color articulate an innate relationship between the model and her environment, bringing to mind the perennial imagery of Eve and her walk through Eden.

Sorayama's Sexy Robots

Erotica // Wednesday, March 13, 2013
Hajime Sorayama is a Japanese illustrator known for his highly-rendered, hyperreal portrayals of sexy robot women. We've featured his work several times before but you can never have too many sexy robots! Sorayama drew his first robot in 1978, then went on to create an entire series of these strange, chrome-slicked translations of classic pinup figures. His virtuoso handling of pose, anatomy, surfaces and textures makes these illustrations outrageously believable and absurd. You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who could deny the absolute appeal of these provocative robo-ladies, not to mention the original Robot Unicorn.

Jeff Bark's 2005 photographic series "Abandon (Dusk)" depicts nudes languishing in home environments with gorgeous, Caravaggiesque lighting and composition. Bark captures his subjects in the highly-wrought posing, light and tone of the Dutch masters as they grasp for their water hoses and bowls of popcorn. "Abandon" explores the history of the body as an agent of emotion in high works of art. Bark lives and works in New York.
