Tru$t Fun's Glory Scarves

Erotica // Tuesday, June 11, 2013
This sexy, colorful photoshoot showing off Tru$t Fun's "Glory Scarves" is a delicious concept. "Each individual scarf is a mathematically valid fractal, painstakingly created by entering a series of numbers and equations into a computer." The contrast of the lithe, bare bodies and these wildly-patterned scarves gives a sense of tribal costumery. These photos are primal and luxurious, a fresh concept for a fresh product.

Pop Profiles & Pink Skins by Maria Herreros

Erotica // Monday, June 10, 2013
Spanish Illustrator Maria Herreros likes to keep things simple and intuitive, favoring the immediacy of sketching on the go and the ease of materials she can slip from her purse. She devotes as much time to the drawing process as she does to disseminating and advertising her work,  which is unsurprising considering the warm reception she's received and the wide audience she's attracted. Herreros' fun, pop-culture infused illustrations are inspired by classic movies and the work of various American photographers such as William Eggleston.

Erotica // Monday, June 10, 2013
Born in Tacoma, WA, James Benjamin Franklin decided to pursue painting as a career after visiting New York City on a high school trip, and in 1999 he graduated from the Art Center College of Design. Over the years he has developed a uniquely stilted yet seductive style, exploring the awkward, neglected moments of human interactions, the disregarded pauses in the midst of grander exploits. Franklin currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NYC, and his artistic influences include Woody Allen, Richard Diebenkorn, Bonnard, and Steve Martin.

Cecily Brown's Crowds of Flesh

Erotica // Sunday, June 09, 2013
Cecily Brown's "Untitled" (2012), now on display in the Gagosian Gallery, examines the subject of the nude ensemble, drawing at the same time from history painting and pop culture. In fleshy yet chromatically sober color pairings, Brown creates clusters of diverse and invidiuated nudes that begin to crowd the painted scene as if from some unnamed purgatory. Fragmented figures and faces dissolve into kaleidoscopic concentrations of grey, purple and sienna. These paintings play out Brown's persistent fascination with the tension between bold painterly gesture and figurative content.

Alaina Varrone's Embroidered Erotica

Erotica // Saturday, June 08, 2013
Alaina Varrone is arguably the ballsiest embroidery artist out there. She embroiders striking scenes and images that are often explicit in nature, creating a wonderfully weird contrast between a traditionally inoffensive medium and its content. Born in New Haven, Connecticut "to a family of weirdos and storytellers," Varrone says she "uses this natural creativity to tell her own stories in thread." Varrone attended MICA as a fiber arts student and is currently working on a series based on the various gang girls of mythology.
