Finnish environmental artist Kaarina Kaikkonen uses second-hand clothing to create installations in open spaces, often suspending them above roadways or in large warehouses. Photographed here, her most recent work Are We Still Going On? uses hundreds of children's shirts hung to resemble the interior hull of a ship.

Every year, hoards of tourists descend on the town of Anna Paulowna in North Holland to see the millions of brightly colored rows of tulip fields. French photographer, Normann Szkop, seized the opportunity to get an aerial view by catching a ride in a small plane and shot some photos that show a completely different perspective.

An amazing installation series where Brendan Davis took mirroed monolith sculptures, put them in nature, and let the pieces reflect their surrounding that resulted in a surreal, almost mythical experience. Each mirrored "menhir" stood at 6.5 feet tall, which would tower over most people. The works were completed in 2010.

German-based artist, Corneila Konrads, continues to make incredible land art installations that defy gravity and float naturally over landscapes around the world. Using branches, stones, and other natural objects, her installations strike an ambivalent pose.

Norwegians just do it better? The Troll Wall is the tallest vertical rock face in Europe, about 3,600 ft from its base to the summit of its highest point. And now, thanks to the wonderful work of Reiulf Ramstad Architects, there is a fantastic visitor's center for which to visit before you base jump, or whatever you do at steep cliffs.

Well, maybe we should preface this post that these are not just any photos of flowers, but perhaps some of the most vibrant, focused photos of flowers you are going to see. Sasha Kurmaz' work takes on a new meaning upon a second glance; they look like still-life paintings, pieces of art in their own right.

Tiffany Bozic, cover of our January 2011 issue, just had a monograph released through Gingko Press, Drawn By Instinct. We were lucky enough to get a copy of it here in the office, and with 192 pages of Bozic's beautiful animal and sea life paintings, this is one of our favorite books of the year. On Tuesday September 4th at 6:00pm, Bozic will be giving a lecture and book signing at the San Francisco Public Library, in conjunction with the Cal Academy of Sciences (Bozic was the artist-in-residence there a few years back).

Grant Harder's photographs are beautifully simple compositions that depict the outdoors in the sense of the sublime. Sweeping mountain ranges, vast and expansive sand dunes, an afternoon skinny dip, and an aesthetically-pleasing collection of boats scattered near an ambiguous lakeshore all bring to mind a summer alternative to the tropics.
