El Mac, one of the cover artists of our Public Art examination in May 2012, just sent us over some images of his recent mural in Havana, Cuba for the 11th Havana Biennial (in conjunction with Primary Flight out of Miami, the Cisneros-Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO), and the UNEAC, (National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba).

Last week, we were down in Mexico City as both a sponsor and participant in the All City Canvas urban art festival. Today we have photos of some of the finished murals and how they look in their surrounding environments, including works by El Mac, Escif, Saner, Sego, Herakut, Roa, Interesni Kazki, and Vhils.

We were spread out this past weekend, part of us in Los Angeles, part in New York City for Frieze, and part in Mexico City, where Juxtapoz was a sponsor and lecturer at the All City Canvas Festival. We have gone over the roster, even posted about Escif's memorable mural, but a line-up of Roa, Aryz, Saner, El Mac, Herakut, Sego, Escif, Vhils, Interesni Kazki, and others is not to be missed. Last Thursday the exhibition PIEZAS opened as part of the Festival All City Canvas at Fifty24MX in Mexico City. Several pieces were on view by many of the artists participating in the festival such as Saner, Roa, Interesni Kazki, Aryz, Sego and El Mac.

We have our Mexico City colleagues on the scene at the huge Public Art festival, All City Canvas, where an all-world roster of artists (Roa, Escif, Saner, Herakut, Vhils, Interesni Kazki, El Mac, Aryz, and Sego) are painting huge walls around the Mexican capital. After the first few days, some massively good works are being produced. Check out some of the progress shots we were able to capture.

The May 2012 issue of Juxtapoz is our special examination on the state of Public Art in 2012. We have spent over a year discussing the topic of community sevice and Public Art programs with festival organizers, politicians in the US and abroad, and artists about their experiences developing Public Art initiatives and bodies of work, and how their experiences can be blueprints for other artists and cities to follow to better communities around the world. El Mac was in Vietnam a few years back to paint murals as part of the Viet Nam The World Tour, and today we just got a video of El Mac's artistic statement about the work he has been doing over the past few yeras. And, you get to see El Mac doing a live mural, which is always a treat.

Los Angeles-based artist, El Mac painted the following photo-realistic portrait of Connie Rice, a civil rights attorney, activist and relative of former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice for an upcoming article in the L.A. Times Magazine.
