This past weekend, Balboa Park's Activity Center hosted Art San Diego, San Diego's annual art fair. San Diego is not a bad place to be in the beginning of September, not only did the region offer pleasant weather (which at times got a bit hot inside the Activity Center), but also some great showings by some of the area's finest art exhibitors like Quint Contemporary Art and Double Break, among a few others.

Currently at Double Break in San Diego is a solo show by San Diego-based artist and Oakland-native Sadie Barnette. The show is unique for Double Break as it consumes the entire store and gallery, spanning the entire space, a format that did not apply to previous shows, creating an immersive environment full of Barnette's impeccable graphite renderings, photographs, and objects. The show will be on view until Saturday, May 12th.

Opening Friday, February 17th is a two-person show at San Diego's Double Break Gallery with Mickael Broth and Ryan De La Hoz. During a recent studio visit with Ryan De La Hoz, we mentioned this show coming up. Together the two artists bring together a collection of paintings, drawings, and collages that provide a graphic and illustrative stylistic conversation.

Recently opened at Double Break is Horror Days, a series of drawings and prints by James Quigley, aka Gunsho. The show runs until November 6th, perfect for the month of Halloween. These cardboard pieces in particular are our favorites from the exhibition.

Earlier this month, Death Ships Don't Surf, a solo show by Gretchen Mercedes opened up at Double Break, the new gallery and art book store in San Diego. As we mentioned before, the store looks great (very much like San Diego's own Parklife), and the show is an interesting take on Mercedes' film work.
