This past Friday, January 4, in San Francisco, Chandran Gallery, in association with Juxtapoz and Power House Productions, presented a special benefit exhibition, installation, and auction in support of an innovative artist-in-residence program in Detroit. The exhibition, Iron To Gold/Ashes To Hope, is now presenting the donated artwork as part of an online auction on Paddle8 closes on January 22nd at 10am EST.

To celebrate Juxtapoz' special project in Detroit with Matthew Barney, Lance Mountain, Power House, and the Ride It Sculpture Park, Juxtapoz is excited to announce a limited edition Barney x Mountain (shot by our wonderful photographer, Joe Brook) cover circulating on newsstands across the world. There are only 1,000, so good luck on the search. We also invited filmmakers Eric Carlsen and Chris Rosik to shoot a documentary on Mountain's time in Detroit, which is what you get to see here, today.

Over the last few years, Detroit has become a destination for artists, more specifically graffiti artists, to visit and spray freely.  The post-apocalyptic landscape offers an open canvas and writers from around the U.S. have been taking advantage. This new installment from Crack & Shine filmed by Will Robson Scott follows a few writers around town and documents a little piece of what’s going on in The Motor City.

This Friday, November 2, Revok will be exhibiting Ordinary Things at Library Street Collective in Detroit. Revok has become somewhat of an ambassador to the arts revival in Detroit, spending time in the city and helping unite both local and national artists who have descended upon the city. And because of this, Each work consists of material cultivated and cultured in the city of Detroit.

When these two get together with a wall and some paint, the final result is always worth talking about. This block in Detroit just got a whole lot of color.

Our good friends at Power House Productions in Detroit, whom we worked with during our 15th Anniversary fundraiser in 2009-10, is putting on a skateboard art exhibition fundraiser, Good Wood, for the Ride It Sculpture Park that is going in the neighborhood close to where Juxtapoz bought houses in 2009. The online bidding auction begins on May 19, and the art show that coincides with the auction begins on May 26 in Detroit.
