Library Street Collective in Detroit continues a great string of shows (Kelsey Brookes, Sam Friedman to name a few) with a new solo show of works by California-based Dave Kinsey. As we just read about the show, and what is captured in this short film to preview Kinsey's "Cushion of Memory" show, is "the new exhibit will showcase a brand new body of work as Kinsey takes cues from the likes of the Sequoia National Park — near his home on the west coast — to create deep, abstract landscapes. “Cushion of Memory” opens in Detroit on September 27 and will remain on display at the gallery through November 8."

I think we call this a quickie. Dave Kinsey will have a two day show, opening today, Thursday, September 5, at Fecal Face Dot Gallery in San Francisco. The show will feature a small selection of canvas paintings surrounded by 30 smaller 8” x 10” black and white chipboard paintings and a selection of rarely produced handcrafted wooden sculptures.

We had the pleasure of attending the opening reception of Dave Kinsey at the Joshua Liner Gallery. Everything at Once, encompass a vast collection of over thirty powerful and audacious paintings and works on paper. Dave’s images have a strong voice that explores a multilayered condensed chaos where its elements struggle to survive. He creates an interesting tension between textures and organic features, where intricate geometry assembles a beautiful representation of an insane world.

Opening this Thursday, December 13, Joshua Liner Gallery is pleased to present Everything at Once, an exhibition of over thirty intense, high-energy paintings and works on paper by Los Angeles-based artist Dave Kinsey. This is Kinsey’s second solo exhibition with the gallery. As the show title suggests, Kinsey attempts to convey a world gone made with media, perpetual conflict, and a sense of the mounting struggle between the urban and natural worlds.

In the 2008 Presidential Elections we saw how artists can have major impacts on the campaign trail to the White House. Dave Kinsey recently released a new image called UNITED in an effort to support President Obama's reelection campaign. Kinsey explains "I feel this is one of the most important votes U.S. citizens will ever make, ultimately affecting everything from our environment and social structure to worldwide issues (to name a few things)."

We haven't seen Dave Kinsey in San Francisco in over a decade, and tomorrow night, May 18, Kinsey will open Lost For Words at Fecal Face Dot Gallery, Kinsey's first exhibition in SF since 2000. The new works are mixed-media, evolving upon Kinsey's abstract forms around figurative faces.

As last year proved to be a good formula for art success, San Francisco will once again host 3 coinciding art fairs this weekend: artMRKT, ArtPadSF, and the SF Fine Art Fair. We are getting ourselves prepared for a few nights out, a few afternoons out of office, perhaps even a picture or a 100 of all the activity going on throughout the city. A rundown after the jump . . .
