DvA Gallery Group Show Photos

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, April 30, 2008
Chicago’s DvA Gallery played host to a packed house this past Saturday, April 26th. With such amazing artists in the show like: Shag, Glenn Barr, Tony Fitzpatrick, Liz McGrath, Daniel Martin Diaz, Bob Dob, Nathan Ota, Dave Cooper, Chris Mars, Gary Taxali, Ana Bagayan, Daniel Peacock, Yosuke Ueno, Paul Barnes, Martha Rich, Esther Pearl Watson, Mark Todd, Jason Houchen, Scott G. Brooks, Bonnie Reid, and Mark Atomos Pilon, we can understand why the event attracted so many guests! Acting as quite the multi-tasker, Mark Atomos Pilon also found time to snap some great shots of the night’s events. We love this photo of finishing touches being added to the Truth piece, but skip over to Flickr to see more show pics now.

Jeff Soto Update

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, November 14, 2007
Jeff Soto has updated his portfolio site with new work from 2006-2007. If you somehow missed his big NYC solo show in September, Storm Clouds, and all the group shows he's been in, here's your chance to catch up. During the past two years, Soto became a first-time father and his art has reflected that experience. While his earlier work addressed environmental and technological dangers in perhaps a more glib and pessimistic tone, he now focuses more specifically on his role in protecting and preparing his daughter for her future. He addresses political instability and the fears that cause us to try to dominate nature rather than respect it, but his irreverence has turned to optimism and his tone is a little more urgent. Jonathan LeVine Gallery has an interesting and more thorough write-up about the metaphors and meanings in Soto's paintings, online here. Give that a read and you may find it easier to not only read Soto's messages in his paintings, but cultivate your own. www.jeffsoto.com/art.html

Jeff Soto's Calendar Project

Juxtapoz // Tuesday, July 24, 2007
Jeff Soto, in cahoots with Murphy Design, has released his Lucky 13 Calendar. This latest creation from Mr. Potato Stamp features 14 paintings created over the past couple of years as well as an additional 39 smaller images from his "Cold Ice Age" series of 100 paintings. There's also an 8" x 8" sheet with 10 stickers and a 32-page, signed mini-zine. The calendar package is a limited edition of 1,500. Everything is in the advanced order stage right now, due to be shipped at the end of the month, but will be premiering at ComicCon in San Diego this week. Jeff says, "I can also be found at the Igloo Tornado booth with my pal Levon Jihanian where I'll have a new screenprint for sale. I don't know if that booth will be labelled Igloo Tornado, Bodega Books, Sparkplug, or Global Hobo, just look for me dressed up as a level 70 Tauren Moonkin." Tech specs aside, here's what you really wanted to know: this thing is dope. Get your tentacles on one now before they're all snatched up. www.murphydesign.com {moscomment}
