Daniel Clowes is a one-man comics institution. From his early work for Cracked Magazine, to his long-running, alternative comic book series, Eightball, which spawned feature films and graphic novels, Clowes has always been a prolific pioneer in style and approach.  

A busy summer it has been all around in the art world, but in our home base of the San Francisco Bay Area, we have had two significant museum retrospectives that have made their way into the September 2012 issue of Juxtapoz. First off, we celebrate our cover story, Daniel Clowes, and his fantastic exhibition at the Oakland Museum of California, Modern Cartoonist: The Art of Daniel Clowes. Over the years, the iconic comic book artist has given us cult-followed works such as Ghost World, Eightball, Wilson, and numerous covers for The New Yorker.

Something to very much look forward to: on April 14, 2012, the Oakland Museum of California will open Modern Cartoonist: The Art of Daniel Clowes, featuring the work of the internationally renowned comic, graphic novelist and writer. And if you can't make it out to Oakland, may we suggest picking up a copy (we just got one ourselves) of the Abrams book, Modern Cartoonist: The Art of Daniel Clowes. Same name. Makes it easier.
