Preview: Dan Witz "Prisoners 2012-13" @ Lazarides, London

NYC-based Dan Witz, who has been a pillar of street art over the past 30 years and extremely talented fine artists, has a new show, Prisoners 2012-13 at Lazarides in London opening on Friday, January 25. Witz' debut solo show at Lazarides will feature his paintings from both his Prisoner and now signature Mosh Pit series. The gallery notes that Witz will dispersing his unique stamp on the streets of London by painting one of his prisoners' image onto phone boxes.

Our good friends at Nuart, whom we featured in our May 2012 Public Art issue, and who hold down a few great public art and music festivals in Stavanger, Norway each year, just opend a permanent gallery space,  Reed Projects, and their inaugural show, The Rejects, in Stavanger this past weekend. They kicked off the new space with a group show that encapsulates a bunch of the artists who have created murals in and around Stavanger each year.

Kevin Cyr, who is featured in our June 2012 issue with a 12-page interview by fellow Brooklyn-based artist Dan Witz, is set to open a new series of his van portraits at Jonathan Levine Gallery on May 19, 2012. In Praise of Rust will feature Cyr's signature works: paintings of old vehicles seen on the streets of New York—"primarily vans and commercial delivery trucks—covered in graffiti, rust, scratches, scuffs, dents and other marks of distinction."

One of our favorite people we got to hang out with in Norway this past Fall was NYC-based Dan Witz, a street and fine artist who has been creating this great interventions for decades, little suprises for those who pay attention to the minute details of the urban experience. "Wild Life" Winter Group Show @ Stolenspace, London

As we were waiting in traffic to visit one of the many fairs in Miami last week, Stolenspace Gallery in London opened Wild Life, a winter group show featuring works from Dan Witz, D*Face, Jennifer Murphy, Kai & Sunny, and many more. Our London correspondent, Butterfly, made it out to the opening, and found a dead deer on the floor.

Last night, we headed straight off the place to the preview of the Underbelly Project's exhibition in the Wynwood District in Miami. We got to spend a lot of time getting to know more about Brooklyn-based Dan Witz last week in Stavanger, Norway for Nuart. And one thing we learned is he works methodically and quickly, and by the time we got settled in the hotel, Dan had taken over the city with his floating eyeballs and king baby pieces.

As we learn to love Stavanger, Norway and Nuart more and more, Day 3 saw many of the artists move from indoors to outdoors. Herbert Baglione, David Choe, DVS-1, and Herakut were finishing indoor walls, and Escif, Hyuro, Lucy McLauchlan, Phlegm, and Tellas were all working on city walls. And, Juxtapoz went on a fjord cruise....
