This should be an interesting film: Skin, where director Ryan Hope has made a stylistic production to examine tattoo art and culture as "high art." The film "tests the boundaries of art and the human body," and gathers interviews with Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons and Raymond Pettibon about to look at the evolving genre.

We received a nice message today from Takashi Murakami's Kaikai Kiki Co in advance of their benefit auction with Christie's for the victims of Japan’s Tohoku-Pacific Earthquake. The benefit will include artists such as Damien Hirst, KAWS, Jeff Koons, Mr., Murakami, Yoshitomo Nara, Gabriel Orozco, Aya Takano, Luc Tuymans, and many others.

We don't report too often on Mr. Hirst on the site, but his recent sculptures at Chatsworth House for the Beyond Limits festival in Derbyshire, England, are quite impressive works. The two sculptures, Legend and Myth, depict a winged-horse and unicorn, with skin removed to expose inner organs and muscles.

Who knew that My Little Pony could be the home of a transformative art project? Mari Kasurinen created this series, My Little Pop Icons, where she created famous pop culture and fictional icons by painting the pony's body. She made a My Little Frida, My Little Damien Hirst, and My Little Lady Gaga.

Gagosian Gallery will be starting off 2012 with quite a bang, exhibiting “Damien Hirst: The Complete Spot Paintings 1986-2011” across all 11 of their spaces in New York, London, Paris, Los Angeles, Rome, Athens, Geneva, and Hong Kong. This is the first time Gagosian has dedicated all locations at once to a body of work by one artist.
