Book Review: "Forever The New Tattoo"

In deliberating if tattoos and tattooists can present themselves as art and artists, Forever: The New Tattoo brings new language and thought to the often stigmatized reputation of tattoo culture. Matt Lodder explains in the foreword, "Tattoos cannot obviously be bought, sold, and traded like paintings because they are painful, bloody, and laborious to acquire." Lodder, a tattoo owner and historian, takes contemporary developments in tattooing and places them into historical contexts.

This Friday, November 9, Thomas Campbell will be having both a signing/release and exhibition surrounding his new surf photography book, Slide Your Brains Out, at Mollusk Surf Shop in San Francisco. Tommy Guerrero and Ray Barbee will be playing live, the book looks amazing as it features Campbell's surf shots from 1997—2012, and Mollusk is an SF staple. Go.

This Friday, November 9, Portland-based fine artist, Josh Keyes, opens a new solo show, The Circus and The Sea, at Roq La Rue Gallery in Seattle. Featuring a new series of paintings, Keyes will also release a new print, Exodus I, available only to walk in's to the gallery starting at 5pm on November 9th. You got to be there to get it. All profits from the print go to the Big Life Foundation, a organization that is actively combating wildlife poaching in east Africa.

New Swampy Prints

The elusive and increasingly cult-icon Swampy just released his first product in quite some time, two new prints through Paper Monster. I Like Disappearing and Owl of Yawn are available now. And as Paper Monster notes, "Before releasing this edition of prints, he kept them locked in the closet of an abandoned house owned by an infamous cult in Oakland."
