John Van Hammersveld has been creating iconic images for decades. He produced rock posters for the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Cream. His influence on surf culture is timeless with his image for the Endless Summer movie. Recently John has been creating a series of wave images.

A large group of selected ticket holders gather at the Toy Tokyo Booth for the unveiling of "Patchwerk". A number of vinyl figures hand painted by Pushead, there's never enough for the number of fans waiting patiently, but there was something for everyone in line and the fans with the higher numbers were able to bring something home.

Comic Con 2011: Mad Magazine Celebrates 50 Years of Spy vs Spy

Mad Magazine is celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, and had a couple special exhibits at Comic Con 2011 to celebrate. One of the exhibits was a group of artist renditions of their infamous Spy Vs. Spy characters. Sam Flores, Sket One, and Abe Lincoln Jr. are just a few of the 30 different artists that they enlisted to work on the project.

New Book: "Labeling America: Popular Culture on Cigar Box Labels"

We just got this new book sent to our office, Labeling America: Popular Culture on Cigar Box Labels, and it is a great collection of old commericial artwork and how elaborate tobacco companies used to present their products. The range of years covered are 1849—1971.

Nuart is reporting that the great Bast, who to us is always creating interesting work, just had a release of work on his webstore. We just saw a few Bast pieces up in Venice Beach, California the other day, so nice to see an update from the NYC-based artist.

This past winter, David Choe's documentary, aka, Dirty Hands: The Art and Crimes of David Choe, closed out our film festival with MoMA, All the Wrong Art: Juxtapoz Magazine on Film. Now Upper Playground is releasing both a deluxe DVD of the film, and live streaming on their site.

New Morning Breath Zine, "False Teeth Volume One"

Brooklyn-based design and fine artist collective, Morning Breath, just released a new zine, "False Teeth Volume 1," featuring a 5" x 7" two-color silkscreened cover with 48 pages xeroxed on multi-color paper. The zine also features a 15" x 21" two-color silkscreen poster printed on newsprint. The zine is a numbered edition of only 50.

Tauba Auerbach and Printed Matter team up for [2,3] Pop-Up Book

One of our favorite aritsts, Tauba Auerbach, has created an oversized pop-up book featuring six die-cut paper sculptures that unfold into wonderful, elaborate forms. And because of the "flux state between 2D and 3D," the book has an interesting title: [2,3].
