Juxtapoz is proud to announce our October issue with one of the world's emerging contemporary artists, Los Angeles-based Cleon Peterson. With works that are both violent, vengeful, and bloody, there is poetry and motion in the works of Cleon Peterson, and for the the October 2014 issue, he created a special composition that conjures up his ballet of conflict.

Jonathan LeVine Gallery is pleased to present Cruel Summer, a group exhibition curated by collector, graffiti historian, Juxtappoz contributor, and urban anthropologist Roger Gastman. "The summer of 1984 was awesome. The space shuttle Discovery took off on its maiden voyage, Apple released the Macintosh personal computer, the Olympics rallied the world together and Karate Kid was the hit film featuring the song Cruel Summer by Bananarama. The song and its video of three gorgeous young women roaming the streets of New York City inspired this show."

For the past few weeks, we have been gong into the vaults to show you some of the history of the artists that were partcipating in "Art Alliance: The Provocateurs" that is happening through August 3 in Chicago. We had the pleasure of attending the opening reception of a group show at La Fabrica Gallery. This Event May Be Occurring In Another Context, is a collective art show created by ACME Brooklyn to create a community between Mexico and USA. ACME Brooklyn is an art project that aims to display the artistic production of a specific context. A group of artists from the emerging and established art scenes of Mexico and New York are invited to express views on the meaning of cultural displacement and the interpretation of identity in over-populated cities that geographically distance origins.

For the last 20 years, Juxtapoz Art and Culture Magazine has stood for the outsiders, to create a place and dialogue for artists who stood outside of the museum programming of the time but were creating substantial and amazing work that needed its own historical context. We have been lucky in our 20th year to celebrate special events in NYC and San Francisco, but we are even luckier to get a chance to celebrate with our July 2014 cover artist, Shepard Fairey, as he curates a major public art and exhibition, "Art Alliance: The Provocateurs" in Chicago during Lollapolooza, July 31—August 4, 2014.

Cleon Peterson combines vivid and violent imagery with an incredible eye for detail. Just off Fairfax Blvd in Los Angeles, he lifted from his End of Days series to create the newest Converse Wall to Wall, featured on the back cover of the June, 2014 issue of Juxtapoz Magazine.

Cleon Peterson, who we have been huge fans of for years (and recently contributed a surfboard to our UNIV x Chandran Gallery x Juxtapoz fundraiser for Waves For Water), just opened a fantastic show at New Image Art Gallery in Los Angeles a few weekends back. We checked it out, and through the throngs of friends and followers, enjoyed the packed house.
