Francis Bacon's "Three Studies of Lucian Freud" goes for a minor $142.4m at Christie's

Remember, it was a set of 3. A record was set Tuesday night, when late British painter Francis Bacon's "Three Studies of Lucian Freud" was sold for a whopping $142.4 million at Christie's in NYC, breaking the world record for the most expensive piece of art ever auctioned. Bacon's previous record was $86m, but a work this intimate, painted 25 years after the two artists met, seems to have garnered a little bit more attention from the billionaire set.

The benefit will include artists such as Damien Hirst, KAWS, Jeff Koons, Mr., Murakami, Yoshitomo Nara, Gabriel Orozco, Aya Takano, Luc Tuymans, and many others.
