The San Francisco Bay Area has been without its modern art institution for a couple of years now, as the physical space that is the SFMOMA has been closed for an addition to its existing building. The benefits of the closure has been spread out across various spaces around the SF area, whether at the Cantor at Stanford, the Wattis in SF, or even the Asian Art Museum here in the City as well. All the shows have been strong in their own way, but the newest SFMOMA On the Go exhibition, "Fertile Ground," brings together SFMOMA and the Oakland Museum of California for a theme that makes perfect: Art made in the SF Bay Area.

South Willard is one of our favorite men's shops in all of Los Angeles. Not only do they have a well-curated selection of shirts, pants, jackets, Alta Dena bags and books, they always have a little bit of art in the shop, with ceramic works standing out. LA-based artists Chris Johanson and Johanna Jackson have collaborated on a series of ceramic pieces that you can see while you shop through June 26, 2014.

All year long, Juxtapoz is celebrating its 20th Anniversary by showcasing the pivotal figures in contemporary art over the past two decades. Some artists are blue chip, some are underground heroes, others are behind-the-scenes legends. This month, we honor one of the great artists from Los Angeles during our existence, Alexis Ross, who has been monumental in various landmark exhibitions including "Street Market" at Art In the Streets. From working with ESPO, TWIST, and REAS, or working on his own paintings, Ross' story is one of history, frankness, and colorful nostalgia.

One of our all-time favorite artists, Chris Johanson, sat down with our friends at KQED Arts recently at Adobe Books to discuss not only his life in art, but also some of the reasoning behind his work and the process of exhibitions and learning. KQED also got to spend some time making conceptual art with Chris, with the artist teaching us all how to make our very own piece of art... take notes kids.

If you are in San Francisco tonight, Saturday January 25, go by and see our friends at Adobe Books because they will be hosting a Chris Johanson book signing from 6—10pm. There will be music by the Ovarian Trolley in celebration of Adobe's 25th Anniversary, and, you know, you can get a book signed by Chris, who notes "Adobe Bookshop is my first home. It's my favorite place to be. In all my travels nowhere comes close. I met the love of my life sitting at that desk...". Read our June 2009 feature with Chris while you are here... then go there.

You could spend an entire day in Art Basel Miami Beach, the main and signature fair of what has become the world's biggest art week each year. After all the parties, the special projects, and even all the celebrity gossip, we are all here to see the main fair, and this year Juxtapoz decided to just wander around, take it all in, and capture just a few things that caught our eye.

The show opens this Thursday, September 12 at SFAI.
