Pardee's Picks: Bonus Portraits

Juxtapoz // Monday, January 06, 2014
There's about 673 things about curating an issue of Juxtapoz that happen during its production process that I love, but one of the creative highlights is working with photographers and collaboratively art directing the portrait shoots with them...

Pardee's Picks: Matt Ritchie Studio Visit

Juxtapoz // Thursday, December 19, 2013
A few weeks prior to Patrick O'Connell's in-depth interview with "Imagination Issue" artist Matt Ritchie, photographer Chloe Rice and I went to pay him a visit in his home studio and wood shop in Castro Valley, CA, and submerged ourselves in the hand-carved, scratched and painted world that he has created for over two decades. The Imagination Issue curated by Alex Pardee On Sale Now

Juxtapoz // Tuesday, December 03, 2013
Juxtapoz' 20th year begins with a special issue curated by Alex Pardee. "The Imagination Issue" is just that: a look into the special worlds and imaginative universes created by some of our favorite artists and creatives working in the world today. From David Copperfield's world of magic, the Lonely Island's original brand of parody and music, inside Wolvesmouth's kitchen, and into the studios of fine artists Charlie Immer, Tara McPherson, Greg "Craola" Simkins, Scott C, and more. "The Imagination Issue" explores where creativity can take you, where it was born, and how an artist can transform the regular into a special world for us to share.

Pardee's Pick: Halloween Issue Portrait Outtakes by Chloe Rice

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, October 03, 2012
One of the best parts of working on the Halloween issue was editing it. Evan, myself and Trent, the art director, spent weeks tightening up the layout, moving articles around, coming up with a color scheme, deleting all of the "umms", "likes" and awkward pauses from everyones interviews...

Studio Visit: Sam Kieth

Juxtapoz // Tuesday, September 11, 2012
The first time I visited Sam Kieth's studio, about 10 years ago, he shared cubicle space directly above The Spaghetti Factory. And he had a janitor. The last time I ventured up to Sam Kieth's studio, 6 years later, he was literally working (comfortably, might I add) in a duct-tape-wrapped mummy of a chair in an underground hideout in the forests of Placerville, CA. By underground I mean UNDERGROUND. There was dirt on top of the ceiling...
