Video: Smashing CCTV cameras

Set to a sped up remix of “Sunglasses at Night” by Corey Hart, this video shows masked vandal activists dubbed “CAMOVER” smashing and spray painting subway CCTV cameras and more. This is some risky “activism” considering they are filming their destruction with GoPros while the trains are running with passengers. Is this art? Not really. Is it vandalism? Absolutely.

Created by artist/architect Marcos Zotes, CCTV/Creative Control seeks to question the oppressive mechanisms and discourses implemented in the city through the temporary appropriation of public space. The intervention consists of a video projection displaying an over-sized eye onto the lower surface of the 10-storey-hight Milton Street water tower in Brooklyn, New York.

With a fire nearly burning down a neighboring building and a Chinese critic publishing an article stating the building was modeled after a pornographic image of a naked women on her hands and knees, it’s surprising the building reached completion.
