Richard Heller Gallery, Santa Monica is pleased to present, Melting Into The Floor, a solo exhibition of new works by Oakland based artist, Brendan Monroe. The show will consist of a body of paintings on paper and a number of sculptures in wood. Monroe's science, almost medical inspired works have seen the pages of our magazine numerous times over the past 5 years, and this new body of work will open at Heller on May 18, 2013.

Brendan Monroe's illustrations depict nebulous, vibrating scenes of a dream-world inspired by scientific processes. His works bring to life the formless figures of a microscopic plane, inviting the viewer into vivid realms of flesh, blood and plasma that are at once strange and deeply our own. Monroe lives in Oakland with his wife Evah and his cat Jalapeño, and he is also a sculptor. He lists some of his interests as "slime, fungus, blobs, crawling sludge, the entire Universe, cats, dogs, rain, the beach, chemistry, biology, botany, food, watching paint dry, frequencies in waves of light."

A nice little surprise in the mail yesterday: Brendan Monroe's new release, the Islands n.2 comic. Says Monroe, "This is the second visual story of my wandering dream based comics. The couple explores the deep sea floor and the gravitational relationship of moon and tide."

Brendan Monroe currently lives and works in Oakland, California. His interpretations of the world are mostly rooted in science then executed through painting and sculpting. Brendan feels these are the best ways for him to communicate, but always enjoys making other things as well. He recently updated his website with some new works, including this collaboration with another Juxtapoz favorite, Mars-1.

Brendan Monroe, whom we featured in the magazine in our July 2010 issue, just wrote us about  a new zine, Limbic Place, and a tee shirt collection he did with Sixpack France. The zine is constructed to be an inner journey through human instinct and primal emotions. See spreads and tee shirt collection after the jump . . .

  Tonight in San Francisco, Linear Empires opens featuring new work from Augustine Kofie, Geoff Campen, Diana Ruiz, Mary Iverson, Richard Pearse, Moneyless, Brendan Monroe and Gregory Ito.  The work ranges in various mediums exploring the use of lines, symmetry, and geometry with an emphasis on design.  We stopped by yesterday to give you this preview of the show. Mary Iverson, a contemporary artist we have admired for quite some time, is part of a group show, Linear Empires, opening at San Francisco's White Walls next Saturday, February 12, 2011. She will be showing alongside Augustine Kofie, Geoff Campen, Diana Ruiz, Richard Pearse, Moneyless, Brendan Monroe and Gregory Ito. Iverson's work after the jump . . .

Fine artists Brendan Monroe and Evah Fan are married and live in Stockholm, Sweden. Both have been in Juxtapoz Magazine this year, and both were interviewed by contributing writer Kristin Farr. In honor of this, we had Brendan and Evah participate in a Madlib.
