The book, Storm Clouds, represents Jeff’s evolution beyond his signature robot vs nature motifs and features work from his politically charged solo exhibitions, Supernova, Cold Ice Age, and Storm Clouds created over the past three years. The Riverside Art Museum, with funding from the James Irvine Foundation, generously contributed the introduction to the book written by RAM’s senior curator, Peter Frank. Also includes essays by Jeff Soto, David Choe, and Mark Murphy. Storm Clouds features a hardbound, archival edition that matches the size and format of the sold out, Potato Stamp Dreams,” with over 154 pages. Jeff Soto has updated his portfolio site with new work from 2006-2007. If you somehow missed his big NYC solo show in September, Storm Clouds, and all the group shows he's been in, here's your chance to catch up. During the past two years, Soto became a first-time father and his art has reflected that experience. While his earlier work addressed environmental and technological dangers in perhaps a more glib and pessimistic tone, he now focuses more specifically on his role in protecting and preparing his daughter for her future. He addresses political instability and the fears that cause us to try to dominate nature rather than respect it, but his irreverence has turned to optimism and his tone is a little more urgent. Jeff Soto, in cahoots with Murphy Design, has released his Lucky 13 Calendar. This latest creation from Mr. Potato Stamp features 14 paintings created over the past couple of years as well as an additional 39 smaller images from his "Cold Ice Age" series of 100 paintings. There's also an 8" x 8" sheet with 10 stickers and a 32-page, signed mini-zine. The calendar package is a limited edition of 1,500. Everything is in the advanced order stage right now, due to be shipped at the end of the month, but will be premiering at ComicCon in San Diego this week. Jeff says, "I can also be found at the Igloo Tornado booth with my pal Levon Jihanian where I'll have a new screenprint for sale. I don't know if that booth will be labelled Igloo Tornado, Bodega Books, Sparkplug, or Global Hobo, just look for me dressed up as a level 70 Tauren Moonkin."
