Surf Craft: Benefit & Auction for Waves for Water, July 17 @ Chandran Gallery, SF (Online Auction Live Now!)

On July 17, 2015, Juxtapoz once again teams up with UNIV, T.F.R. Gallery and Chandran Gallery for the second in what will become an annual Surf Craft benefit auction, held at Chandran Gallery in San Francisco. This year, we invited artists Chris Johanson, Dan Witz, Swoon, Logan Hicks, Grotesk, Mary Iverson, Brett Amory, Alicia McCarthy, WEST, Zio Ziegler, Kevin E. Taylor, David Arquette, Daryll Peirce, Beau Stanton and Ty WIlliams to contribute original work on surfboards to be exhibited at the gallery with a live auction on Paddle8 in conjunction with the show. The online auction on Paddle8 is running now through July 29, 2015.

Beau Stanton "Polychromasia" @ Hudson Hotel, NYC

Through March 18, the cozy Library Bar will host Polychromasia, an exhibition by artist (and longtime Juxtapoz collaborator) Beau Stanton created specially for the Hudson Hotel. Curated by Art Nerd New York’s Lori Zimmer, the exhibition will feature twenty new multiples and two large paintings, inspired by Stanton’s interest in Victorian ephemera, ancient narratives and industrial decline.

Beau Stanton just opened a new body of work inspired by the imagery and techniques found in sacred spaces called "Tenebras Lux" at the Crypt of Saint John the Baptist in Bristol. He will also be release a print today, "The Ornamented Man."

Good friend Beau Stanton is in Bristol, England right now, teaming up with another Jux friend Andy Phipps and his gallery space in the South for a new grouping of Stanton's work, "Tenebras Lux." We have some progress shots at the moment, and here's the lowdown on the body of work: Tenebras Lux is a new body of work inspired by the imagery and techniques found in sacred spaces. Stained glass windows, elaborate oil paintings, and ornamented sacred objects create an immersive experience that references medieval art forms, ancient and modern religious iconography, and fetishized holy relics.

Today, more than two months and 385 submissions later, Renée Hile, vice president of marketing for ColArt Americas Inc., comments, “We were very excited that the contest drew such a high caliber of work.
