If you live in the San Francisco area, you know the University of California's Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive has a great program, and in great news, the BAM/PFA was awarded a $100,000 grant from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts for a Barry McGee retrospective exhibition in 2012. Can't wait.

Misha Hollenbach, part of Perks and Mini and fantastic conceptual artist, just curated In the Garden at Utopian Slumps in Melbourne, featuring a series of rugs woven in Tibet from designs by Christian Hidaka, Hollenbach, Chris Johanson, Misaki Kawai, Barry McGee, Keegan McHargue, and Constanze Zikos.

One of our favorite exhibitions that the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art holds is the SECA (Society for the Encouragement of Contemporary Art) Awards, focusing and honoring Bay Area artists whose innovative works, while diverse in form and subject matter, reflect overlapping affinities. This year, SECA is celebrating its 50th anniversary in the Bay Area art scene with both the 2010 SECA Awards exhibition and Fifty Years of Bay Area Art retrospective.

Once again Barry Mcgee’s large tag wall stirs up controversy, this time in Sydney. The City Council of Sydney is being accused of vandalism after commissioning McGee to be a part of the Art & About festival takes art out of the gallery setting and into the streets of Sydney. Mcgee was given permission and $15,000 of local council funding to paint the two walls. As usual, everyone has an opinion to whether or not it is actually “art”.

Through September 13, Hamburger Eyes will be holding its annual auction fund raiser on Ebay. Proceeds go towards Hamburger Eyes' ongoing production of books and magazines. The auction will have work from the likes of Ed Templeton, Barry McGee, Thomas Campbell, David Potes, Dave Schubert, and many more.
