This is a fun little show from the curators of V1 Gallery, where they sent out a message to a bunch of artists they have shown over the years, including Barry McGee, Tim Barber, Ray Potes, Ed Templeton, Art Marcopoulos, and more, and asked them to submit one piece of art, in an edition of 1 + 1AP, that reflects the current state of the individual artists position right now. That show has become "Hindsight," and opens on January 17, 2014.

You could spend an entire day in Art Basel Miami Beach, the main and signature fair of what has become the world's biggest art week each year. After all the parties, the special projects, and even all the celebrity gossip, we are all here to see the main fair, and this year Juxtapoz decided to just wander around, take it all in, and capture just a few things that caught our eye.

We had the pleasure of attending the opening reception of the San Francisco born and raised artist Barry McGee. This is the artist’s first solo show with Cheim & Read Gallery and also his first show in NYC in 8 years. The multi-layered compositions that McGee builds on-site are visually stimulating, brightly-colored, and its multiplicity meld together to create an unrepeatable identity.

Barry McGee is back in NYC, and on the same night he has work in the Mission School show at SFAI, he will be opening his first solo show in NYC in 8 years at Cheim & Read Gallery tonight, September 12. A few photos have leaked of McGee's installation process for the show, with his iconic mixed-media "pimple" sculpture looking to make an appearance. After his spectacular Berkeley Museum show retrospective, the San Francisco-based artist is in a creative groove...

We have an "unknown sources" on the ground and in the Walter and McBean Galleries at the San Francisco Art Institute, taking some set-up and sneak peek photos from Energy That is All Around, a group show under the guise of Mission School featuring the works of Barry McGee, Chris Johanson, Margaret Kilgallen, Alicia McCarthy, and Ruby Neri. The show opens this Thursday, September 12 at SFAI.

Is this not the best thing Barry McGee has ever been a part of, a fake bonfire with teenagers interviewing him? The Teen Arts Council in Boston began their “Around the Campfire” artist interview series and starting strong they had McGee participant. Endearing and sincere.
Graffiti // Wednesday, April 10, 2013
Over the years, Art21 has been putting together a number of insightful pieces with short video interviews from Barry McGee, something the artist has been known to shy away from. In this newest segment, Mcgee aka Twist discuses his continued fascination with tagging, nighttime graffiti culture, and the risks others take to do graffiti.

Last night, we attended the opening of a special exhibition at City College in San Francisco, (Almost) Free Formed, featuring collaborative works of former City College students Barry McGee, Chris Johanson, and Laurie Reid. The quiet, intimate night was highlighted by the trio's organization and layout of the show, and also gave notice to the importance of SF's City College to some of the most successful and influential artists to come out of San Francisco in recent decades.
