Animated Gif Art by James Jirat Patradoon

Illustration // Saturday, May 31, 2014
'James Jirat Patradoon (born 1985) is an Australian Artist/Illustrator. He creates character driven visual art, born of fictional worlds of borrowed imagery that act as distorted mirrors to our reality, mashed-up and remixed to create new stories. Inspired by the fashion and costume of black metal music, gangster rap, professional wrestling, sci-fi films, and superheroes, James' work is an irreverent take on the stoic nature of macho pop culture.'

Staedtler pencil sculptures by Lionel Bawden

Juxtapoz // Monday, April 21, 2014
Lionel Bawden constructs elaborate and fluid sculptures strictly with Staedtler pencils. As it is noted on the Australian artist's site, "Bawden’s core practice exploits hexagonal coloured pencils as a sculptural material, reconfigured and carved into amorphous shapes, mining the material’s rich qualities of colour, geometry and metaphor."

Louise Zhang's Neon Viscera

Illustration // Tuesday, February 04, 2014
Louise Zhang's brilliantly psychedelic abstractions are mind-numbing meditations on the vagaries of color. Great fields of purples and pinks gradate into intestinal tracts of neon viscerae, the cosmos and the microscopic all coming to mind in a candy-sweet cacophony.

Plastic Doll Faces by Freya Jobbins

Juxtapoz // Tuesday, February 04, 2014
We love this series of faces composed of pieces of plastic toys by artist Freya Jobbins. Freya was born in Johannesburg, South Africa but grew up in West Sydney, Australia. She see's the toy assemblages as her humorous side and her print making as her 'voice.'

Best of 2013: Incredible Photos from the archives of the Sydney Police

Juxtapoz // Saturday, December 28, 2013
Originally published September 19th, 2013: These fascinating photos come from archives of the Sydney police between 1912 and 1948. We are in awe at either the intentional or unintentional artistic sense of whoever the policeman/photographers were in the police department! One of our favorites is the man who refused to open his eyes...

His death on Sunday, after a long struggle against emphysema, was confirmed by artist and friend Garry Shead, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

David McCracken's Never-Ending Staircase

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, November 20, 2013
This seemingly never-ending staircase titled Diminish and Ascend is the work of artist David McCracken. Part of Bondi, Australia's annual Sculpture by the Sea event, the installation is an optical illusion that plays with perspectives and from certain angles appears to continue endlessly into the clouds!

"Mr. Dictator Head" and Other Sculptures by Stephen Ives

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, November 13, 2013
The all-popular Mr. Potato Head gets a fantastic makeover with Melbourne-based artist Stephen Ives series of sculptures, "Mr. Dictator Head." The artist's other plastic toy figures are often humorous, sometimes disturbing (as re-assembled toys often are) and always imaginative and inspired.
