Popularized during World War 1 by Italian and German pilots, Nose Art was the practice of personalizing your fighting aircraft.  Commonly, these paintings were on the fuselage and were painted by civilian artists, and talented amateur servicemen.  Often the imagery was scantily clad women accompanied by a witty pun.  TheFlopBox recently released a limited edition zine titled “The Bitch’s Sister” that highlights Nose Art from found photographs.

Walking up to a quiet fire pit and a room full of the leading artists in San Francisco's underground scene was perhaps the best way to come home after a long week in Miami for Art Basel. On Sunday night, we attended Bill Daniel and Austin McManus' one-night photo show, that also included a screening of Daniel's "Who Is Bozo Texino?" and musical performance from Tin Sandwich and the Saw Mill Trio.

This should be a good one; Bill Daniel (featured in our April 2011 issue, and his "Who Is Bozo Texino?" film was screened at our film series at the MoMA this year) has teamed up with one of our editors, Austin McManus, for a one-night exhibition, Tin Ton Tic Tac Click Clack at the Lost Door in San Francisco on Sunday December 4. Photos, new zine, and a screening of "Who Is Bozo Texino?" all in one night.
