We continue our month of Beastie Boys with a fantastic behind the scenes story. Yes, you the reader will get to know the mystery of World B Omes in the coming days and the tale of Licensed To Ill's now iconic album cover. Antiques Roadshow, being one of the best programs of TV, did this fantastic little bit on someone getting their Licensed To Ill artwork appraised. In conclusion, PBS is going to show up a lot when it comes to the Beastie Boys this month. 

This past Friday, January 4, in San Francisco, Chandran Gallery, in association with Juxtapoz and Power House Productions, presented a special benefit exhibition, installation, and auction in support of an innovative artist-in-residence program in Detroit. The exhibition, Iron To Gold/Ashes To Hope, is now presenting the donated artwork as part of an online auction on Paddle8 closes on January 22nd at 10am EST.

Last night, we were able to check out the setup of the Chandran Gallery x Juxtapoz Iron To Gold/Ashes To Hope exhibition opening tonight only, January 4, in San Francisco. Singapore/San Francisco-based Chandran Gallery, in association with Juxtapoz and Power House Productions, present a special benefit exhibition, installation, and auction in support of an innovative artist-in-residence program in Detroit that features artists from around the country in hopes of creating a meeting place of creativity in the middle of the USA.

We got a little sneak peek into Iron To Gold/Ashes To Hope, the special benefit exhibition, installation, and auction in support of an innovative artist-in-residence program in Detroit that Juxtapoz is helping sponsor in collaboration with Chandran Gallery in San Francisco. The artists organizing the event, Monica Canilao and friends, are Bay Area based artists who have since moved and started a residency program in Detroit to bring together fellow artists from around the country to have a meeting place for collaborative projects and creative development.

In conjunction with Bonhams Auction House holding their first United States Urban Art Auction on October 29, 2012, in Los Angeles, we sit down with Gareth Williams, who oversees Bonhams contemporary, urban, and modern design sales at the London-based auctioneers. From the Banksy effect to the pieces in the new Urban Art Auction, Mr Williams gives insight into the world of auction houses and contemporary art sales.

Following in the footsteps of the Hotel Chelsea in New York City (an establishment that no longer offers the same long-term residencies for creative types as it did in the past), the Clarion Hotel in Stockholm has been offering rooms in exchange for artwork.

Our good friends at Power House Productions in Detroit, whom we worked with during our 15th Anniversary fundraiser in 2009-10, is putting on a skateboard art exhibition fundraiser, Good Wood, for the Ride It Sculpture Park that is going in the neighborhood close to where Juxtapoz bought houses in 2009. The online bidding auction began on May 19, and the art show that coincides with the auction begins on May 26 in Detroit.
