Atlanta-based artist, Sever, has updated his site with some clever and controversial new work created outside. Sheep SWAG train gave us a good laugh.

Drew Tyndell: Geometry on Wood

Juxtapoz // Monday, November 11, 2013
With an already established career in animation, we are really into these wood collage pieces by Atlanta-based artist Drew Tyndell. Taking wood pieces, painting them with various structural and abstract geometric patterns, and then collage the wood pieces together, Tyndell takes his skill as animator and applies it to handmade, physical art. He is currently showing at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design in the group show, Co/exist.

Book Sculptures by Brian Dettmer

Juxtapoz // Thursday, August 29, 2013
Working with knives, tweezers and surgical tools, Atlanta-based artist Brian Dettmer carves one page of a book at a time, exposing each layer while cutting around ideas and images of interest. Nothing inside the books is relocated or implanted, only removed. The image and ideas that he reveals are used to expose alternate histories and memories.

Living Walls - Part 4

Street Art // Tuesday, August 20, 2013
As we reflect on the eventful week spent in Atlanta for the fourth edition of Living Walls, exhaustion kicks in. On our final two days we were able to see all the walls come to completion, which included the finishing of 3ttman, Nanook, Trek Mathews, and Roti’s walls. We attended a lecture series that took place on the 27th floor at the top of W Hotel that featured speakers and an artist panel all centered around urbanism and the use of public space. On the final day the main focus quickly shifted to getting the closing party ready that was to be held at the Goat Farm...

Living Walls 2013 - Part 3

Street Art // Friday, August 16, 2013
The sun now completely covered by grey clouds has given us some much desired cool down time on our third day here in Atlanta for the Living Walls Conference. After last nights block party in the Edgewood neighborhood where a large crowd congregated in front of Roti’s wall for a hazy late night of celebration in the streets, we wouldn’t be surprised if everyone had a more sluggish start than usual today.

LIVING WALLS 2013 - Part 2

Street Art // Thursday, August 15, 2013
On our second day in Atlanta for the Living Walls Conference, we walked out of our hotel straight into the beautiful Piedmont Park, which is as pristine and well-manicured a public park can get. From there we caught up with some more wall action, first checking out Agostino Lacurci’s vibrant painting of a character sitting in a chair accompanied by four masked dogs. Then we saw Jaz’s first mural painted for the conference: a stunning piece involving bulls around a fire in the woods, creating a serene but dark overall ambiance.

Living Walls 2013 - Part 1

Street Art // Wednesday, August 14, 2013
On our first day in Atlanta aka The ATL, Hotlanta or A-Town, we toured around to some of the walls checking out the muralists as they endure the summer heat and lay some paint down. First we got to view some walls by famed-photographer, JR that had been done the week prior before the conference kicked off. After that we caught up with 3ttman as he worked on a massive wall packed full of playful and vibrant colored imagery. Then we saw walls from Inti, Jaz, Know Hope and Roti in collaboration with Jaz. Our night ended at a” mansion party” and in true southern style, it had the largest porch we have had the opportunity to loiter on! Check back tomorrow for more updates!

Hense paints exterior of Atlanta Contemporary Art Center

Graffiti // Thursday, January 17, 2013
Bold, big and dripping in chrome. One of the exterior walls of the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center now loudly displays the letters of local graffiti writer, Hense’s name backwards. Atlanta has had a number of issues regarding public murals and what’s deemed appropriate in the last year, so it’s nice to see a contemporary institution support the work of a graffiti writer.
