Joe Strummer Memorial Mural

Street Art // Thursday, May 23, 2013
It’s a slow day on the streets today, so we are going to bring it back to this Joe Stummer memorial mural painted in 2003 by legendary graffiti writers, Dr. Revolt and Zephyr, in New York. “The Future is Unwritten” / “Know Your Right!” The mural has been repainted a number of times due to deterioration and defacement, but it looks better than ever here.

Juxtapoz // Friday, May 03, 2013
Tomorrow, May 4, 2013, Ever Gold Gallery in San Francisco presents a third solo exhibition from New York-based artist, Mark Mulroney. Strangely, the press release for “A Fertile Menace” accurately describes the tone of much of Mulroney’s work. "Mark Mulroney has never stabbed anyone. Once he tried to punch someone in the face but he missed, then he ran. Fortunately for Mulroney he is very fast and has managed to stay safe for nearly 35 years....

Ron English x Slash sculpture

Street Art // Monday, April 01, 2013
With a hefty price tag of  $7,500 and limited to just 10, this fiberglass bust collaboration between artist, Ron English and Guns & Roses guitarist, Slash is not as easily attainable as lets say a happy meal toy? English worked with Slash to create his recent album cover art for “SLASH & Friends” and with this bust the artist interpreted SLASH’s iconic skull with a top hat. The pieces were made in collaboration with Hong Kong’s prestigious sculpture house, Garage Works, and if you have a large wad of money burning a hole in your pocket then go for it!

New mural from Blu in Bologna, Italy

Street Art // Wednesday, March 13, 2013
We are patiently waiting for a new epic stop animation from Blu like the ones that blew everyone’s mind a few years back. Not to say that his murals aren’t certified homeruns. This new wall was painted on the XM24 building in Bologna, Italy, a space that supports and promotes social change, vegetarianism, and anti-fascism. You can see content relating to Star Wars and Lord of the Rings on this one.

Ken sortais / Dystopie

Graffiti // Sunday, February 03, 2013
These are the work of Parisian artist, Ken Sortais, who is closely associated with the artist Horfe. They appear to be ink on large unstretched canvas. The heavy dripping and thick ink blotches really create an interesting overall look.

BOOK REVIEW: "SIGN PAINTERS"

Juxtapoz // Thursday, December 20, 2012
We have been anticipating the release of Sign Painters, a new book by Faythe Levine and Sam Macon, since we first heard from our friends at New Bohemia Signs (Who are featured) of its production in 2010. Documenting many of the older and emerging hand-lettering fiends, this book accurately displays the beauty and passion of the craft. The book notes and we have seen for ourselves, that there has been a resurgence in traditional sign painting.
