To mark the London Design Festival 2013, de Rijke Marsh Morgan Architects (dRMM) designed the MC Escher-inspired wooden staircase rightly titled Endless Stair. Visitors will be able to walk around the 20 interlocking staircases constructed of tulipwood. One of the architects, Alex de Rijke described the staircases as "a three-dimensional exercise in composition, structure and scale and as both a marker and a meeting place." 

We were browsing the interwebs (we do a lot of that) and happened upon a photograph of Thomas Heatherwick's UK Pavilion from the Shanghai Expo 2010. This led us to discover many of Heatherwick studio's other projects as well! So, this morning we bring you a collection of their work and a video about the very cool looking UK Pavilion.

We are about to close the chapter on our special month of Beastie Boys' coverage in conjunction with our June 2013 Beastie Boys issue, and we thought it was the right time to concentrate on one of the Boys' most personal albums, To the 5 Boroughs. For their first LP in the wake of 9/11, the Beastie's brought in Italian artist and architectural artist, Matteo Pericoli and his brilliant Manhattan Unfurled drawing as the cover. Completed on a 22-foot long scroll, the dedicated work, convering the nuances and beauty of NYC, proved to be the perfect companion to the music of To the 5 Boroughs. 

The historic center of the city of Graz is located on the River Mur in Austria is home to the Kunsthaus Graz, a building designed by Sir Peter Cook and Colin Fournier in 2003. The 2,500 square meter space is dedicated for changing contemporary art exhibitions, functions and events. The strange, blob-like, blue bubble blends with a heritage-protected part of the building and uses 930 computercon trolled light sources under the building's skin to create a 45-meter display that allows the building to communicate with its environment....

One entry into the competition for designing a new Miami bayfront park, submitted by VisionDivision, is meant to symbolize the good life experienced in beach side Florida. "The grid shell exterior is clad in glass that mimics the sun at daytime, its skin reflecting light and gradually shifting its colors during the day, creating spectacular sunrises and blazing sunsets for the park, while at night time it transforms into a half moon." We're into it. The future is here.

Geoff McFetridge, an artist who has done fantastic projects recently with Heath Ceramics and Bushmills, just completed a new mural piece at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. As the Walker notes, "In conjunction with his talk for the 2013 Insights Design Lecture Series, the Walker commissioned McFetridge to create artwork to cover construction fencing during the Walker’s rebricking project."

Adam Feibelman (Adam5100) makes painstakingly-layered paper cutouts evoking the stunning absence of form in an image. Feibelman was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and started making art as a graffiti artist. That led him to CCA where he won an award for printmaking and illustration. Adam's work has taken on a satirical look, challenging conceptions of modernity and focusing on the realm of spaces as a language to describe forgotten places. 

This educational center in El Chaparral, Spain by Alejandro Muñoz Miranda consists of walls and a ceiling with variable section, elements that create a sequence of compressed and decompressed spaces determined by their use.

Boston-based designer and architect Preston Scott Cohen's design for the Datong Library in China is currently under construction. The 'grand architectural gesture' is a book ramp, which ties four floors of books together. Aircraft design software was used to realize a complex skin that envelopes the 'dramatically soaring tectonic form.'

Swedish architect Gert Windgardh and Finnish artist Kustaa Saksi used 700,000 sheets of illustrated A3 paper and 44,000 suspension points to build their immense and vibrant mosaic installation for the 2013 Stockholm Furniture Fair. Watch a timelapse after the jump...
